Tales of potholes are overblown. A spectacular and safe drive for practically any vehicle. Observe basic safety standards, be aware you are very off-the-grid for much of it. Be sure to stop for a sna… Full review by pchartwell

A GMC Acadia. I would be ok with a sedan, but parts of the road were pretty rough with broken pavement an pot holes. I son’t recall anything that would have stopped a normal car. There was a campground at the north end of the coast part of the loop, and we saw a guy pulling a camp trailer out on the north end of the loop. We figured it took him a few hors to pick his way out of there without emptying all of his cupboards.

Roads are great. They aren't duel carregway but are in good condition.

I'm planning a family trip for July and wondering if it's realistic to start the day in Ferndale and leisurely with scenic stops and lunch have time to complete the Avenue of the Giants and end of the day in San Francisco. If it's too much to get to SF that evening is there a place you recommend stopping on our way to SF so we can complete travel in the morning. I would appreciate any thoughts. Also, I saw a "trees of mystery" gondola ride over the redwoods and wonder if you know anything about it. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

There’s lots of small towns and places in between sf and the trees. I would recommend to give yourself time to see the trees. We spent 3 days with the trees and the paths. Sadly it …

There’s lots of small towns and places in between sf and the trees. I would recommend to give yourself time to see the trees. We spent 3 days with the trees and the paths. Sadly it wasn’t enough. There’s some great cabins in Humbolt. Have a great trip.
